Xerces Blue (2024)
“The title, Xerces Blue, references a gorgeously-hued North American butterfly, the last living specimen of which was sighted in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in 1943. It is now considered extinct. Inspired by the myriad fascinating qualities of the butterfly - metamorphosis, transformation, lightness, resilience, beauty, strength, vulnerability - this piece celebrates the virtuosity, power, and sheer magic of the harp. Deepest thanks to Art of Elan for supporting the creation of this new work, and to harpist Julie Smith Phillips for brilliantly ushering the piece into the world.”
