Wesley Fowler, percussion
Wesley Fowler is a percussionist who seeks to give generously to the community. Specializing in the performance of contemporary music, he is a doctoral student and associate instructor at the University of California San Diego, currently studying with Steven Schick. He is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. A virtuosic performer of vastly diverse repertoire, the Boston Music Intelligencer describes that “Fowler’s ‘pyrotechniques’ would make any child beg for percussion lessons." Wesley has been featured as a soloist and performer with the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, the Los Angeles Monday Evening Concert Series, The Percussive Arts Society International Convention, and the Big Ear Festival, and has performed alongside other ensembles such as the Bang on A Can All-Stars, Red Fish Blue Fish, Charles River Wind Ensemble, Boston New Music Initiative, Ensemble Knox, and more. As an educator and administrator, Wesley has served as the Director of Music at Austin Preparatory School in Reading, MA, as the Manager of Performance Technology at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and teaches students privately and at local community schools. In any position, Wesley believes that there is music to discover all around us, and that careful listening creates empathetic people. When he isn’t making music, he is probably covered in flour in his kitchen working on a new recipe to share with friends
